Strength in Submission

"Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it." Ephesians 5:22-25

It's not always easy to be submissive and there are times when I disagree with his decisions, but I have learned that if I follow my husband it makes our marriage work a lot easier. He has to answer to God for our family and the way he leads our home. My husband has to answer to God for the way he provides for us and keeps me happy. As long as I do my part in submitting to him and he does his part in submitting to God then everything will fall into place.

When those things get out of order and he does not want to follow God's will for our family or I don't want to agree with his decisions he makes, then there will be fighting and tension and turmoil in the marriage. No one will be happy and most marriages end in divorce because the home is out of order.

Sometimes being a submissive wife requires us to do things we might not be in the mood for or might not have time to do. But if that's what we need to do to keep our husbands happy then that is the right thing. I will say it again, it's NOT always easy and it took me 15 years to figure it out.

So many have asked how we made it this far in our marriage and how we are still in love after all these years....well it hasn't always been great and we've had some rough years, but God showed us how to love each other and put Him first in our lives.

Marriage takes a lot of work and its hard. Every day you have to wake up thinking "What can I do today to make him happy?" or "How can I make his day better?" Sweet little notes in his lunch or text messages during the day at work is nice and unexpected. We have to go out of our way to be nice to each other or we will get lazy and complacent. We just assume the other one is happy and then you grow apart.

You have to communicate every day how you feel or you will lose your connection. Our tone of voice makes a WORLD of difference.
Proverbs 15:1 " A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."
Choose your words wisely and don't just say things without thinking first.

Learn to pray together at home. That can be the most precious thing and helps you grow together in the Lord and stronger as a couple learning to open up and tell each other your deepest feelings. Asking God to forgive us for our failures in front of our spouse is humbling and helps them to see us at our weakest. It's good for them to know we are aware of our faults and we need God's help to fix them.

So, just because I said all that, don't get this mental picture in your head that our marriage is perfect, because it's not. I still struggle every day trying to be submissive and bite my tongue and keep him happy. It's a DAILY job. Marriage is hard work but it's worth it. And I am so glad we made it this far. I hope God gives us 50 more years together.

Homeschool Field Trips

We met at a church for a fake Crime Scene Investigation. They gave the children clues to a death and they had to figure out who was guilty by using fingerprints, blood samples and more....
Another day we went to the Fire Station to learn all about their jobs and all the vehicles and equipment they use to keep us safe.

Then we went skating with all the other homeschool kids and they LOVED IT!!!

THANK YOU!

To the 4 people who donated money for our flights. We are so grateful for your generosity. We pray that God will greatly bless your family. I was able to book the flights, but while I was waiting to get the money, the prices went up. So after some checking around I found that staying over night and flying with southwest airlines is cheaper than flying there and back in one day with delta.

I got a hotel room at the medical rate and our tickets for $830. So that left some for airport parking, meals and cab fare. Thanks again for everything. I am trying not to stress about the expenses for our trip later this year for his surgery. I know God will provide a way like He always does!
